St. Clair Men’s Basketball Set School Record in Conestoga Win

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team set a school record at the SportsPlex Saturday evening with a 123-82 win over Conestoga College (Kitchener).  The Saints (8-3) set a new standard for points scored in a single regulation game breaking the old mark of 120 points which St. Clair had reached on three occasions and most recently in the 2018-19 season.

A stunned Conestoga team saw the home team race to a 32-17 first quarter lead capped with a buzzer beating triple by St. Clair's Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) which gave the near capacity crowd a rise.  The Saints continued to push down the accelerator scoring 35 second-quarter points on their way to an eye popping 67-27 halftime advantage.  The teams played even in the third quarter (25-25) but at one juncture St. Clair had a 47-point cushion.  The Saints bench got involved which contributed 43 points in total where all but two of the thirteen players dressed recorded a basket.

St. Clair converted nearly half of their shots (47-for-95, 47.5%) which included 15 makes from beyond the 3-point arc at a rate of 42%.  But 56 points in the paint and 30 points off 20 Conestoga turnovers paved the way for an easy victory.

Saints guard Shakael Pryce (Pickering, ON) led his team with 28 points who was helped by teammate Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) who scored 19 points to go with 8 rebounds for St. Clair.  When not hounding the opposition with tough defense Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) found time to score 14 points.  Deerr finished with 13 points and Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) rounded out the double figure scorers for the Saints with 10 points.

St. Clair held the OCAA scoring leader Ladera Ujullu-Obang (Kitchener, ON) to a mere 6 points but allowed Terell Lloyd (Woodstock, ON) to score a game high 42 points which included 8 triples in a losing cause.

On Sunday the Saints will host another test against Sheridan College (Brampton, ON) who are tied in the win column with St. Clair.  Tip time is at 3:00pm.
