Men’s Basketball Shoot Lights Out in Playoff

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team put on an impressive shooting display Wednesday night at the SportsPlex in a 116-92 West Division playoff win over Sheridan College (Brampton).  The victory advances the Saints to the ¼ finals where they will host Algonquin College (Ottawa) on Saturday afternoon.

Hot shooting for both teams in the first quarter produced greater than 50% on each side and created a torrid pace but St. Clair still came out ahead 29-26 headed to the second.  The Saints maintained their shot making and increased their lead to 57-45 by halftime which only grew further after the third quarter to 84-68.  St. Clair saved their best for last and shot a remarkable 66.7% in the final frame cruising to the lopsided win.

For the game the Saints were 57.9% from the floor which included 40% from beyond the 3-point arc to go with a respectable 72% from the free throw line.  Sheridan shot a decent 43.4% by comparison but only made 5 triples in the contest to St. Clair's 10 makes.  Sheridan outrebounded the Saints 41-30 but held no other significant statistical advantage.  St. Clair also outscored Sheridan 50-33 in points off the bench as minutes were handed out generously down the stretch.

David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) and Alberto Lopez (Barrie, ON) each shared the limelight for St. Clair scoring 24 points apiece.  However, Lopez came off the bench to score his points in just 19 minutes of play to go with 6 rebounds.  Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) scored 14 points for the Saints to go with 6 boards while Terence Williams (Windsor, ON) and Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) each scored 12 points.  Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) chipped in with 11 points and 4 rebounds for the Saints.
