Men’s Basketball Host Sheridan in West Division Playoff

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team (7-2) finished in 2nd place of the OCAA's West Division and earned a home playoff game Wednesday night at the SportsPlex against 7th seeded Sheridan College (Brampton) which will tip at 8:00pm.

Sheridan struggled to a 4-5 record in the shortened season but is a perennial power in the OCAA with 13 provincial championship titles to their credit which ranks 2nd behind only Humber (14).  The Saints were able to knock off the Bruins 100-89 on Feb. 20th at the SportsPlex but will have to contend with OCAA's 4th leading scorer in 2nd year 6'4" guard Mahmoud Qasim (Mississauga, ON) who puts up 23.9 points per game but also leads their team in rebounds at 8.5 per contest.  Jaidyn Dorman (15.0 ppg), Jaylen Passley (14.9 ppg) and Mahad Siad (10.6 ppg) also average double figures for Sheridan who have the 3rd ranked offense (89.5 ppg) in the province.  Defensively however the Bruins give up the 15th most points in the OCAA at 90.6 points per game.

In a matchup that will surely see some points St. Clair will counter with the 2nd rated offense in the OCAA that averages 95.2 points per game but also ranks 6th in field goal shooting percentage (46.2%) and rebounding (42.6 per game).   2-time OCAA All-Star selection David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) anchors the St. Clair attack scoring 21.8 points per game.  Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) and Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) each put up 14.1 points per game with super-sub Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) leading the team in rebounding (8.3 per game) to go with 13.1 ppg for the Saints.

Should St. Clair get past Sheridan they will host the ¼ final game at the SportsPlex on Saturday against the East Division winner of #6 Seneca College (North York) and #3 Algonquin College (Ottawa).  All ¼ final winners will advance to the OCAA Final Four Provincial Championship Mar. 16-17.
