Men’s Basketball Start 2022 with Lambton Win
Windsor, ON – The #13 Nationally ranked St. Clair College Men's Basketball team started their 2022 season with a 94-79 win over Lambton College (Sarnia) on Wednesday night at the SportsPlex.
Lambton came out of the gate well, but the Saints righted the ship for a 22-18 lead after the first quarter and slightly expanded their advantage to 41-35 by the intermission. The teams played even (24-24) in the third quarter before St. Clair cruised down the stretch outpacing the visitors 29-20 in the fourth.
The Saints bested Lambton 29-7 in bench scoring and capitalized with 25 points off 19 turnovers. Lambton was good in the paint but only shot 20% (4-20) from distance while the St. Clair made 11 of 32 (34.4%) from the behind the arc.
Saints guard David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) had a game high 19 points adding 4 assists but was joined in double figures by five teammates for a balanced attack. Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, ON) came off the bench to score 15 points to go with 11 rebounds for the double-double but filled his stat line with 4 assists. Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) had 14 points to go with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) scored 12 points but pulled in 4 rebounds with Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) netting 11 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Miles Hall (Toronto, ON) also chipped in 10 points in a non-starter role.
Lambton's Kameron David (Brampton, ON) scored 17 points in a losing effort and added 8 rebounds.
St. Clair travels to Canadore College (North Bay) this weekend to continue their league schedule with a 1:00pm tip on Saturday.
