St. Clair’s Claydon and Murphy Headline OCAA Women's Softball Awards

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team have fashioned one of the best seasons in program history and were rewarded with several OCAA league awards headlined by Player of the Year honours for pitcher/first baseman Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) along with Rookie of the Year accolades for shortstop Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON).

Claydon dominated the circuit this season finishing with one of the highest averages in Saints' history at 0.541 which ranked 2nd in the OCAA this year.  But she hit four homeruns and drove in a remarkable 37 runs in just 16 games which tied a league record that was set over a 24-game regular season schedule.  On the mound she led the league again with a 7-1 record to go with a sparkling 2.03 ERA.

Murphy batted 0.493 out of the lead-off position and also tied a league record with 37 runs scored while swiping 18 bases.  Her speed and power combination led to four homeruns while anchoring the Saints defensively up the middle.

OCAA All-Star recognition was given to Claydon and Murphy along with catcher Julia Brusseau (Lakeshore, ON) and centerfielder Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON).  Brusseau led the league in triples (4) while batting 0.423 with Lafleur hitting 0.446 which was 5th best in the league.

Saints Head Coach Doug Wiseman won his 4th OCAA Coach the Year Award in his 8th year and was just a win away from perfect season at 17-1 while collecting his 7th pennant.

St. Clair is playing host to the OCAA Provincial Championship tournament this weekend at the campus diamond and open their quest for a 5th crown at 1:00pm on Friday against the lowest remaining seed from Thursday's opening round games.
