Saints Women's Softball Get Past Durham in Oshawa

Oshawa, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team (14-0) kept their streak alive with a doubleheader sweep of Durham College in Oshawa Saturday afternoon.  The Saints needed extra innings in the opener winning 8-4 and closed out the day with an 8-3 victory.

St. Clair fell behind 2-0 in the 1st inning of the opening game and 3-2 in the 4th but tied the game up in the 5th at 3-3.  Needing an extra frame St. Clair scored five runs in the 8th and although they allowed a run in the bottom half it was enough to escape with the come from behind win.  Saints' pitcher Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) went all eight innings spreading out 9 hits and surrendering just two earned runs but struck out four batters.  She helped her own cause with a couple of singles at the plate and an RBI. Centerfielder Tiana LaChance (South Woodslee, ON/Essex District) also collected a pair of hits and scored a run for the Saints.

Another competitive game in second matchup saw the Saints lead 2-1 in the 1st inning but were all square 3-3 in the 4th.  St. Clair pushed two runs across in the 5th and 6th innings before adding a run in the 7th to complete the scoring.  Rya Cowan (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) started on the pitching strip allowing three runs on eight hits with a walk and strikeout but was potent at the plate with three hits including two doubles and an RBI.  Allison Dufour (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) came on in relief to shut the door giving up just two hits and two walks in three innings of work with no runs against to go with a strikeout.  Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) had a 3-hit game that featured a double, homerun and two RBI's.  Claydon went deep over the left field fence which was part of her two hits and four RBI's.

The Saints return home to host Mohawk College (Hamilton) on Sunday at the campus SportsPark diamond with game times of 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
