Saints Women's Softball Open 2021 OCAA Schedule at New Home

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team begin their 2021 OCAA season Friday night at the new SportsPark diamond which will be the first time since 2017 that games have been played on campus.  The evening doubleheader against Humber College (Etobicoke) starts at 6:00pm.

Returning for the Saints is 3rd year infielder/pitcher Rya Cowan (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) who was named the OCAA Women's Softball Player of the Year in 2019.  She was named league All-Star and became the 7th player in St. Clair history to win OCAA POY and the 8th time a Saint has won the award.  Cowan batted .449 (4th OCAA) but led the league in homeruns (6) and nearly eclipsed the record for RBI's in a season with 36.  She also toed the rubber for 46 innings pitched with a respectable 3.80 ERA and a 5-2 record to go with 6 complete games thrown.

St. Clair expect big things up the middle starting with 5'9" catcher Emily Erskine (Brampton, ON/St. Thomas of Aquinas) who transferred to the Saints after three years at Humber College where she won an OCAA Championship in 2019.  5'11" Cambridge native Amy Claydon (Jacob Hespeler) also transferred to St. Clair after three seasons for NCAA Division II Wayne State University (Detroit, MI).  5'2" shortstop Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) will anchor the infield for the Saints and be a threat at the plate along with the base paths.

5'5" Chatham native Sarah Vellinga (Chatham-Kent) transfers from the University of Windsor and will use her athleticism around the diamond as will 5'6" centerfielder/third baseman Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON/Essex District).

5'7" pitcher Allison Dufour (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst), 5'5" catcher/outfielder Julia Brusseau (Lakeshore, ON/St. Anne) and 5'6" outfielder Paige Ulman (Windsor, ON) will contribute to the Saints depth throughout the lineup.

In 2019 the Saints were the OCAA bronze medalists and Humber won the provincial championship.
