Women's Soccer Earn First Win

Windsor, ON (Sept 24, 2022) The St. Clair women's soccer team earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon at Acumen Stadium at the Sportspark. The Saints had a solid 2-1 win over the Conestoga (Kitchener) Condors.

St. Clair got on the scoreboard first when Melissa Watson (London; Saunders Secondary) banged home a rebound off of a corner kick in the 26th minute. The  Condors tied things up at 1-1 in the 45th minute on a nice passing play. The first half was evenly played with Conestoga having 8 shot attempts compared to 7 for St. Clair. Athena Dimario Done (Windsor; St. Joseph's) made 4 saves in the half while the Conestoga keeper made 5.

The second half was also played evenly by both teams. However, the Saints got the winning goal off of a free kick on a great shot by Jaclyn French (Windsor; FJ Brennan) in the 77th minute. St. Clair hung on for the rest of the game playing some great defense to secure the win.  Sydnie Lucier (Windsor; L'Essor) and Emma Riccardi (LaSalle; Sandwich Secondary) both had solid all around games for the St. Clair women.

The Saints are now 1-2-1 on the season and Conestoga dropped to 1-3-1. Conestoga was ranked 9th in Ontario heading into weekend action. The West Division standings are very tight early on with 6 more games remaining for St. Clair.

The Saints are back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they travel to the Toronto area to take on Humber and Sheridan.
