Saints Football Wins Big in Quinte

Belleville, ON – The St. Clair Saints Football team travelled to Loyalist College in Belleville Sunday afternoon beating the Quinte Skyhawks in their home opener by a score of 84-14. This moves the saints to 3-0 in the regular season and marks their first win on the road of the 2022 season.

A slow start out of the gate saw the Saints down on the scoreboard for the first time in the 2022 season, after Quinte returned an interception for a touchdown to give them an early 7-0 lead. The Saints responded quickly on back-to-back touchdown passes by Quarterback Andrew Brush (Kitchener, ON), who hit Dante Lewis (Windsor. ON) for a 24-yard touchdown reception, and Enzy Youyoute (Mississauga, ON) for a 3-yard touchdown. The Saints took a 14-7 lead heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Dante Lewis picked up where he left off as he took a shovel pass from Brush and found the endzone for a 10-yard touchdown reception. Moments later, Lewis was back at it again where he returned a punt for a 65-yard touchdown. Kicker, Preston Knight (Leamington, ON) added two field goals and a single giving the Saints a 35-7 lead heading into the half.

The Saints offense exploded in the third quarter scoring 35 points to extend the lead to 70-7. The third quarter saw three touchdown rushes by Kian Voakes (Windsor, ON), Andrew Brush and Boriz Wright (Windsor, ON), as the rushing attack began to pick up steam finishing the day with 264 rushing yards on 20 carries. Quarterback Matthew Guenette (Windsor, ON) hit Wide Receiver Jared Hayes-Williams (Windsor, ON) for two touchdowns in the quarter. Hayes-Williams finished the game over the century mark in receiving yards yet again going for 111 yards on 5 receptions.

The defense put on another show holding the Skyhawks to 147 yards of total offense and adding 4 interceptions. Ryan Najim (Leamington, ON) finished the game with 2 interceptions, while Nick Baeini (Leamington, ON) and Shaye Wynter (Brampton, ON) also intercepted Quinte passes. Nikko Hrcan (Belle River,ON) led the team in tackles with 4 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles.

The Saints tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter thanks to a Riley Sagriff (Kingston, ON) 28-yard touchdown reception thrown by Guenette, and a 1-yard touchdown run by M.J Doyle-Marshall (Airdrie, AB). Quinte added a late touchdown to make the final score 84-14 in favour of the Saints.
