Saints Defeat Skyhawks in Home Opener

Windsor, ON – On Saturday night at Acumen Stadium, the St. Clair Saints Football team opened their season in front of 700 Saints faithful and defeated the Quinte Skyhawks by a score of 82-0. This moves the Saints to 1-0 in the regular season and marks their first win in Saints Nation football history!

After a slow start with both teams trading field position, the Saints opened the scoring with 3:53 left in the first quarter on a Preston Knight (Leamington, ON) 27-yard field goal. The Saints defence was dominant all night, starting with a Tynan Braymiller (Mesa, Arizona, USA) forced fumble, that the Saints recovered putting them in excellent field position. This led to the first touchdown of the 2022 season thanks to an 18-yard run by Quarterback Andrew Brush (Kitchener, ON), giving the Saints a 10-0 lead with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter.

The flood gates opened as Andrew Brush hit three different Wide Receivers for a touchdown. First, Enzey Youyoute (Mississauga, ON) caught a 33-yard pass, followed by a Dante Lewis (Windsor, ON) 34-yard touchdown catch and a Jared Hayes-Williams (Windsor, ON) 32-yard reception. This capped Brush's night as he exited the game with 11:11 left in the second quarter leaving him with a fantastic opening night stat line. Brush finished the game throwing for 3 touchdowns on 7 of 12 passing for 145 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Matt Guenette (Windsor, ON) took over at Quarterback for the Saints, and the rookie wasted no time completing his first throw for a 31-yard touchdown pass to Dante Lewis. Less than 4 minutes later Guenette hit Jared Hayes-Williams for a 30-yard touchdown reception. Guenette finished his night going 2 for 2 with 2 touchdowns.

The defense remained perfect as London Dawson (Kitchener, ON) got in on the scoring with an interception returned for a touchdown. Moments later Kenley Williams (Brampton, ON) snagged an interception of his own which led to another touchdown. This was his first interception of two on the night. The Saints added one more touchdown before the end of the 2^nd quarter which gave them a 68-0 lead going into the half.

Many Saints found the scoresheet throughout the night as Quarterbacks Dan Mailloux (Tecumseh, ON) and Jason Nuzum (Windsor, ON) threw touchdown passes to Alex MacLellan (Lasalle, ON) and Alex Stewart (Cambridge, ON). While Jarrel Pappin (Mississauga, ON) and Carl Fabre (Windsor, ON) added rushing touchdowns. The defense held strong all night as they only allowed 24 total yards to the visiting Skyhawks offense. Dominate performances by Tynan Braymiller, Octavian Fanea (Windsor, ON), Nick Trifon (Lasalle, ON), Josh Allen (Windsor, ON), as well as many others who got in the game for the Saints.

The St. Clair Saints are back at home next week hosting the Hamilton Hurricanes with a 7:00pm kickoff Saturday night at Acumen Stadium.
