Saints Women's Softball Move to 4-0 after Pair of Wins in London

London, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team bumped their OCAA record to 4-0 after earning two more wins on Saturday in London. The Saints bested Durham College (Oshawa) by a score of 5-4 and then rolled over Mohawk College (Hamilton) 16-0 in a mercy shortened 3-innings.
St. Clair trailed Durham 4-3 in the 5th inning but scored a pair to overtake the lead and hold on down the stretch. 3rd year pitcher Rya Cowan (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) picked up the win with 4 innings of relief work giving up just two hits an no earned runs while striking out one Durham batter and issuing two free passes. Cowan also had a double in the pivotal 5th inning to drive in the tying run.
Starting pitcher Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) moved over to first base defensively but had a big day at the plate with three hits and two RBI's. 2nd year transfer Jacklyn Yewchyn (Windsor, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) pinch hit and drove in the go-ahead run in the 5th inning.
In the lopsided win over Mohawk rookie chucker Allison Dufour (Amherstburg, ON/General Amherst) only had to pitch three innings but surrendered just a pair of hits while striking out two batters.
Offensively St. Clair's hit total finished at 20 for the contest with centerfielder Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON/Essex District) leading the parade reaching base four times including a double and two RBI's while scoring three times. Shortstop Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) had three hits and three runs to go with two RBI's.
Claydon kept her hot bat going with a pair of hits and four RBI's while 1st year catcher Julia Brusseau (Lakeshore, ON/St. Anne) had three singles and an RBI for the Saints.
St. Clair remains in London to complete the league round robin event on Sunday facing Seneca College (North York) at 10:30am at Fanshawe College and then move over to Stronach Park to face Humber College (Etobicoke) at 2:00pm.
