Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team got off to a good start in defense of their OCAA crown posting a 3-1 record in a pair of doubleheaders at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh this weekend.  On Saturday night the Saints dropped George Brown College (Toronto) by scores of 4-0 and 12-4 but then split a pair with Humber College (Etobicoke) Sunday afternoon winning 8-6 and losing 8-4.

Saints starter Evan Ferguson (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's) needed just 80 pitches to shutout George Brown in the opening game on Saturday going the distance and only surrendered 3 hits while striking out 3 with no walks.  2nd year shortstop Josh Anderson (Ajax, ON) had a pair of hits including a triple to go with an RBI and a run scored to pace the St. Clair offense.  In game two on Saturday first baseman Colin Robinson (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) had three hits and an RBI while transfer catcher Garrett Kratz (Ajax, ON) clubbed a 2-run homer allowing rookie Saints pitcher Cody Moore (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) to pick up his first win on the hill who gave up 2 runs over four innings of work.

On Sunday St. Clair jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after the first inning and were up 8-1 by the fourth allowing starter Brock Whitson (Chatham, ON) to collect his first win of the season after spreading out 8 hits and 3 walks who gave up four earned runs while striking out 3 Humber batters.  Michael Hamlin (Harrow, ON/Essex) squashed a late Humber rally in a 2-out save appearance in the final inning.  Freshman third basemen Owen Findlay (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) had three hits and two RBI's and catcher Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) cleared the fence for a home run as part of his 2-hit and 2 RBI's.  Anderson and Austin Tilson (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) also had a pair of hits each for the Saints.

In Game two Sunday St. Clair could not hold on to a 3-0 lead and allowed Humber to overtake them with six runs in the 6th inning.  Sam McKinlay (Tilbury, ON) took the loss for the Saints but gave up just two earned runs and four hits in five innings pitched adding five strikeouts to go with three walks.  Second basemen Carter Reh (Harrow, ON) had two hits and an RBI for St. Clair and teammate Hunter Appleyard (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) drove in two runs with a hit.

The Saints continue their OCAA schedule next weekend when they travel to Sault College (Sault Ste.
