OCAA Silver Lining for St. Clair Men’s Basketball

Etobicoke, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team (10-3) lost 87-70 Thursday night to Humber College in Etobicoke but claimed their first OCAA Silver Medal since 1981.  The Saints will however continue their season having already qualified for the CCAA National Championship March 25-27 which will also be hosted by Humber.

In a game that saw nine ties and seven lead changes Humber was able to win each quarter and steadily grew their advantage throughout the contest.  St. Clair fell behind 28-23 after the first frame and by halftime needed to overcome a 52-44 deficit.  Humber capitalized on a bad shooting day for the Saints (30.1%) and grew their lead to as much as 25 points late in the fourth quarter.

Neither team shot well from deep but Humber outscored St. Clair 30-12 in the paint and shot 48.6% overall from the floor while badly outrebounding the Saints 64-43 on the glass.  St. Clair did force 18 turnovers and turned that into 20 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome their poor shooting.

David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Michigan) led St. Clair in scoring with 21 points and added 6 rebounds.  Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, MI) was named Player of the Game for the Saints after netting 20 points to go with 4 rebounds while Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, ON) chipped in with 11 points.

Vincent-Simon and Gomez Jr. were both selected to the Championship All-Star team for St. Clair.

Humber's Kevin Otoo (Toronto, ON) scored 34 points and pulled down 8 rebounds to lead his team in the Gold Medal victory.
